Context
Create an artefact and an accompanying type specimen to celebrate the chosen typeface -Brothers - desgined by John Downer in 1999.

Solution

From the research, Brothers was inspired by the chromolithographed letterhead typeface designed for the American circus The Cole Brothers in 1920s. It was drawn on a lithography stone and were “cut-in,” meaning that the lettering artist filled the panel background and left the letters showing in reverse and applied it on the stationery.

To celebrate this story behind the font and how it was made, I created a stationery brand called Brothers Co. and made a hand-painted shop sign along with a set of stationery as their products.

Type Specimen - Postcard
Inspired by the circus's historical mode of transportation via trains, the type specimen features a set of 8 travel-themed postcards with iconic train stations from various American cities.

In addition, a set of stamps are produced by using the punctuation marks and word logos from the font family.
